Once I was told, "You are either an idealist or a cynic. There is no in between." I took umbrage. I lobbied for the inclusion of a third category, which I called "critic." There is a value in assessing the effectiveness of an endeavor, not to discourage but to refine. I don't think critics say no. I think they say, this doesn't work.
But I am speaking of a true critic, not cynics masquerading as critics. The difference is a belief in the possibility of improvement.

...and subsequently do nothing to improve it. After all, there's other stuff to piss on.
